What is the BO ID in Angel One?

By PriyaSahu

BO ID in Angel One is your Beneficial Owner Identification Number. It is a unique 16-digit number that identifies your demat account. The BO ID is very important because it helps in tracking your holdings, transactions, and is required when you transfer shares or apply for IPOs. It is like your account number for the demat account. Without the BO ID, your demat account cannot function properly. Every investor who opens a demat account gets this BO ID automatically, and it stays fixed for that account.

Where Can You Find Your BO ID in Angel One?

You can find your BO ID in the Angel One app or website. Just log in, go to your profile or account section, and you will see a 16-digit number. The first 8 digits are the DP ID and the last 8 digits are your unique Client ID. Together, they make your BO ID. You can also check your BO ID in your demat account statement or welcome email from Angel One. It is also available in CDSL if your account is linked there.

Why Is BO ID Important for Investors?

BO ID is important because it helps in identifying your demat account uniquely. You need this number to apply for IPOs, transfer shares, and also while linking your demat account with other services. Without the correct BO ID, these actions cannot be completed. BO ID is also used when you pledge shares or when shares are credited to your demat account after buying. It ensures that shares are sent to the right investor.

Is BO ID the Same as Client ID?

No, BO ID and Client ID are different. The Client ID is just the last 8 digits of your BO ID. But when someone asks for your BO ID, you need to give the full 16-digit number. So always make sure you share the full BO ID when required. Sharing only your Client ID can lead to confusion or rejection of IPO applications or other requests.

When Do You Need to Use Your BO ID?

You need to use your BO ID when applying for IPOs, linking your demat with your bank, checking your holdings, or transferring shares from one account to another. It is used to identify your holdings in CDSL, which is the depository used by Angel One. If you are transferring shares to someone else or from another broker, you will also need to enter their BO ID.

Can You Change Your BO ID?

No, you cannot change your BO ID. It is fixed once your demat account is opened. If you close your account and open a new one, only then you will get a new BO ID. So keep your BO ID safe and don’t share it with anyone unless necessary for investment purposes. This ID is confidential and should be used only when needed, just like your bank account number.
